When I was trying a number of cheaper no-name projectors like this a few years ago anything under $100 was pretty much the same deal. Not very bright. Loud. There was often blurring at the edges. So don't expect the world for under $100. That said, for this price it's actually better than some of the cheaper projectors I had tried and I did not notice any blurring at edges. Once focused it seemed pretty sharp all-around which was nice.
I bought this to take along on a beach trip since the house we were staying at seemed to have small tvs in all the rooms. Paired with a cheap fabric screen. This projector can be mounted on a tripod and I had a larger height adjustable tripod I mounted it to. I was able to project 100in image from probably 12ft away and it worked out pretty well. The caveat as mentioned is I could really only use the projector at night. During the day with all the ambient light in the room you couldn't even see an image on the screen. This projector NEEDS a near pitch black environment to look nice. Some light is OK, but it will wash out some of the image. For instance, we had a single light on (under the microwave) about 12ft behind us to the left and even that had washed out the screen some. The darker the better to get the best colors and image.
Bottom line, my expectation was for $55 it solved a problem for my beach trip. I could hook my Wii up to it and play games at night or watch a movie on a larger screen. I'll use this projector outside some to project on a wall in the evening or at night. I have a 1080p Epson I use in my home theater setup and it's MUCH brighter and better in all regards, but it also didn't cost $55. So while I would not suggest using this projector in a main home theater setup, for what it costs it's not too bad for occasional use. Just be aware the fan is loud and it's not very bright to combat a lot of light in the room and you'll be good.
I have noticed that the whole image is never totally in focus, so you have to play around with it to find what works for you. But it's good enough for when I watch movies or have a little home presentation.
I give it 4 stars for the difficulty in focus and also because I do think it's a little too noisy.
Keystone:
It Sucks. It only moves vertically - not horizontally - which is OK - but when you apply the keystone, you can't focus both the top/bottom of the screen. If you were watching a movie, it maybe wouldn't matter, but I am using it for a golf sim and I need readable data at the top and bottom of the screen. All it really does is make it a square - but not really a 'usable square'.
Mount / Screen flip:
I still can't decide if I missed something, but when I inverted the screen (button on the remote) so that I could mount the project upside-down, I ended up with reversed text. As I was messing around, I couldn't tell if I could flip both directions or not -but I mounted it differently and it became a non issue. It might be goofy, just FYI.
Brightness:
This is the only projector I've ever used at home. If my garage lights are on - You can't see this at all. I'm using it in the dark, and it's fine. Again, I don't expect it to be perfect, but it's definitely OK for the price.
The only other thing that's an annoyance, is that I end up backing out of menu to power off, where you need to confirm. If you don't confirm it turns off, instead if needing to press "another button" to cancel. it's happened a few times, and it just seems like I shouldn't be in the "power off" menu as often as I am. Now that I'm past the point of messing with it, it's less of an issue, but I swear I accidentally turned it off a half dozen times at first.
Other than that lens had a lil bit of a stain but nothing major
Original take: For throwing a 50-inch wide video image on a painted living room wall that isn't perfectly flat, this projector has been pretty good. Color, resolution, contrast and brightness are surprisingly good; the speaker is surprisingly loud. So, the basics exceeded my expectations. But keystone adjustment is a joke, at least if you don't want large areas of the screen out of focus. Materials and build are OK for the price. I wish there was a second HDMI port instead of the USB ports, and better magnification. An iris control would at least allow for more keystone adjustment and more forgiving focusing in situations where we don't need full brightness. Overall, though, for the price, really not bad.
If this is a known issue and has been rectified, I would, yes, be interested in exchanging it. Otherwise, it is what it is.
UPDATE Nov 18, 2024 - I have received support and an amicable resolution has resulted. This review has received an upgrade in the review.
That aside, I've very pleased with the projector's quality.
Obviously a little tough to see when there are. Bunch of lights on or if watching in daylight—as expected. Only thing I wish it had was larger adjustment for the little foot underneath and I wish it was centered since the foot is on the side slightly (I’m assuming for what was installed internally kept them from allowing a foot to be in the middle). This makes it a little tough because the screen ends up ever so slightly tilted. Nothing a little bottle cap or honestly even a piece of folded paper can’t fix though. Still worth the price on my opinion.
Used the bluetooth to connect to a speaker with no issue. I noticed a slight delay but my spouse did not.
I tried to connect the audio out to a powered speaker and noticed significant audio noise. The noise is loud enough that you can't use it to watch a film, you would have no quiet moments.
The headphone jack / audio out is truly for headphones or passive speakers. There's no audible noise when used with headphones or passive speakers. Only present with a powered / amplified speaker.
PROS:
- Works with any HDMI port streaming device
- Connects to bluetooth speakers for better sound.
- Built in speakers do not disappoint at all.
CONS:
- A bit noisy and the sound could dwell into dialogue in a quiet scene.
- Doesn’t get bright enough to watch during day with a completely shut blinds.
- Build quality not great (expected for this price)
Previous review:
I really liked it until this! Sneeze looking noise on inside of screen!
Worked great for a few weeks, then one night, turned it on and saw all this cloudy noise, creating shadows on everything! I checked the lens, clean on the outside but then I shined a light inside (projector turned off) and could see it was on the inside! Also inside looked like it was wet, covered in slime, I don't know what happened but up until this weird situation I really enjoyed it. Couldn't find a way to contact mfr. Through Amazon. Tried the options Amazon gave me through the app and website.
Only ever cleaned the outside lens with eyeglass cleaning fabric.
Great color, reads mkv files off flash drive. Great improvement over previous projector in this price range( previous projectors sound went bad, but it did have two HDMI, this one only has 1)
Initially I faced some issues with the remote connectivity but after few days it worked fine .
Only issue I still face is that all sides or picture do not focus, if I to focus one side the other side goes out of focus , but that's how I believe projectors work and it's a common issue .
Sound quality is ok for a small room.
Overall a good budget friendly product.
